IChO2028 Messina, Italy - 2nd to 11th July 2028!

IChO2028
President Welcome message

As President of the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2028 and President of the Società Chimica Italiana (SCI), it is my great honor and pleasure to host IChO 2028 in Messina, Italy.

This event places special emphasis on the energy, creativity, and talent of young students and early-career researchers, whose ideas will shape the future of chemistry.

Supporting the next generation is one of the core missions of IChO 2028. Providing the right support will enable these young talents to establish themselves in the professional world where, thanks to their abilities, they will find their place in both academia and industry.

I strongly believe that investing in students and young professionals is essential for continued innovation and global collaboration. Their enthusiasm, diversity of perspectives, and willingness to explore new directions inspire us all and ensure a vibrant future for our community.

The entire organization of the event will be guided not only by innovation but also by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, placing sustainability and inclusion at its core, values that are very important to me and that I hope to pass on to the new generations entering the world of chemistry.

I am proud to welcome participants from around the world and look forward to an engaging and memorable IChO event.
On behalf of the IChO 2028 Committees, thank you for being part of this journey.
We look forward to welcoming you to Messina.

Opening Ceremony: Castello di Milazzo

The fortress and the area within the walls stand out over the Milazzo landscape at the top of the ancient “Borgo”, representing one of the largest fortified complexes in Europe, with a surface area of 7 hectares and over 12,000 m² of buildings.

The Milazzo Castle is one of Milazzo’s main historical attractions and a symbol of Sicily.

Situated in a panoramic position overlooking the Gulf of Milazzo, this medieval castle dates back to the 11th century and tells the story of centuries of history.

Closing Ceremony: Teatro Antico di Taormina

Built in the 3rd century BC by the Greeks and later expanded by the Romans, today the Ancient Theatre of Taormina, with its 109 m diameter cavea, is, after the one in Syracuse, the largest theatre not only in Sicily, but also in the Italian peninsula and Africa.

However, it is undoubtedly the most spectacular, thanks to its stunning panoramic view over the Gulf of Schisò, with the majestic silhouette of Mount Etna in the background.
