Castello di Milazzo

The Milazzo Castle is one of Milazzo’s main historical attractions and a symbol of Sicily. Situated in a panoramic position overlooking the Gulf of Milazzo, this medieval castle dates back to the 11th century and tells the story of centuries of history.

The fortress and the area within the walls stand out over the Milazzo landscape at the top of the ancient “Borgo”, representing one of the largest fortified complexes in Europe, with a surface area of 7 hectares and over 12,000 m² of buildings.

The Milazzo Castle is not only a historic structure, but also a vibrant venue that hosts cultural and social events throughout the year, the most popular of which include concerts, theatrical performances, and art exhibitions.

Drawbridges, guillotine gates, towers, gunports, arrow slits, and bastions will provide the backdrop to the opening ceremony of IChO2028, offering a breathtaking panorama that stretches from Capo Calavà, passes the Aeolian Islands, and reaches all the way to the Strait of Messina.
